Yesteryear Collection

In October 2003, Philip Wilson Publishers of London published "The Story of the Golf Ball". Compiled and written by Kevin McGimpsey, a keen golfer and golf consultant to Bonhams, the internationally renowned auction house, this definitive book on antique and collectible golf balls is for golfers who wish to know more about the game's history, as well as for golfing memorabilia collectors. In his ten years of research and composition, Kevin came across a wealth of information - for example, the highest price paid for one of the earliest known golf balls was £24,000 for a 'feather' ball, made in the 1840s by David Marshall, while the most expensive ball so far is the "Henry's Rifled Ball", made in 1903, that sold at an auction in 1998 for £29,000.

During the 1920s and 1930s it was common to see golf vehicles such as this Crossley Pick-Up Truck delivering new batches of the latest golf ball to club shop professionals, or at golf championships such as the British Open, where golf ball manufacturers would give free sample balls to the participants.

Of the 250 Code Two models produced, 30 were released in a reverse colour scheme to the majority of models. The publishers used these as a promotional tool. This model was issued in 2003 with the full permission of Matchbox Collectibles and was limited to just 250 models.
